Festival News

Some of the countries leading artist-makers will be appearing at the Stroud International Textile Festival in May 2009.

The Festival is now in its fourth year, and is the UK's only Festival that celebrates and profiles contemporary textile art linked through to traditional textile culture.

The Festival takes place in venues throughout the Stroud Valleys in Gloucestershire. 2009 will see new work from Matthew Harris - Trace Elements ; Jacy Wall – tapestries; Hilary Bower- textiles & mixed media; Mary Butcher - willow and reclaimed materials; Michael Brennand-Wood, Margot Selby, Rachel Gornall and Ruth Waller & Lee Hewett will delight and surprise our senses with colour, texture and movement; Dawn Dupree will be bringing printed textiles alive.

One new venue for 09 is the Made in Stroud shop where selected artists will exhibit their work in Select. Here you can enjoy the work of Dawn Dupree, Ekta Kaul’s wonderful interior textiles, Margo Selby’s woven pieces and more work from the Jewellery showcase. All work is for sale.

The programme is always vibrant and innovative with established international makers exhibiting alongside emerging new talent.
Adding to the diversity of the Festival will be contemporary textile Jewellery Showcase with Jerwood prize winner, Susan Cross heading a fantastic line up of designer/makers. Names include Nora Fok, Nel Linssen, Ursula Hofmann and Lina Peterson are among the 15 makers exhibiting. SIT would like to thank Charmian Adams and Roger Plant for sponsoring this showcase.

The Studio Seven textile artists return with Cut 2 on Fold, a cross-arts project encompassing textiles, installation and dance. www.studio-seven.net

Weekend of 16 and 17 May sees the return of the World Textile sale in a new venue. Check out the Events Page for full details.
