Not So Fast

An Exhibition by 20 Textile Designers & Artists
20 - 25 April 2010
the Octagon,  Milsom St., Bath BA1 1DN

Not So Fast! is an exhibition by twenty textile artists and designers who bring together a glorious range of contemporary artworks and functional textiles for six days in April at the historic Octagon gallery in Bath.  The show is curated by Carole Waller.
Each individual artist uses textile as a material or source for his or her own discipline, with intriguing techniques and results. Vibrant colours, sumptuous fabrics, tactile surfaces packed with meaning, depth and function, will interest and delight audiences alike.
Each exhibitor has a story to tell. The work ranges from individually designed clothes and accessories, to small and large scale textile hangings, and to interpretations of the metaphorical meaning of textiles through sculpture, installation and new media. Many of the artists have exhibited internationally and much of the work draws its inspiration from all over the world. This brilliant cross-over between the functional and conceptual is shown in one of Bath's most iconic buildings: the 18th century Octagon.
Work on show will be for sale.
20 - 25 April, from 10 - 6pm. Sunday 11 - 2pm Admission free.

In the Making

January 2010 will see the launch of ‘In the Making’ at the Museum in the Park.
Working in partnership with the Museum in the Park, Stroud International Textiles will be unveiling an exciting new project that will show new contemporary designer craft in a Museum setting.  Linking the present and the future to the past.
Work from contemporary designer-makers will be exhibited showing the range of skills and brilliance of modern crafts. Offering a wonderful opportunity for visitors to the Museum to see work from leading makers across the disciplines. S I T and the Museum hope this will be exciting, open up discussion and engage the public in contemporary applied arts and crafts.
One discipline will be exhibited at a time and reflect the innovation and high quality of British craftsmanship today.  The displays will cover the broad range of disciplines that make up contemporary crafts in Britain today.
‘In the Making’ will link the past to the present and the future offering a local audience the chance to see inspiring work from exciting established and emerging makers - to enjoy the skills involved and offer fresh ways of seeing crafts.
We hope to encourage young people to see and enjoy contemporary craft with information and discovery sheets.
The work on display will change every 6 to 8 weeks.
Opening ‘In the Making’ will be work from locally based internationally renowned cast glass artists, Sally Fawkes, Richard Jackson & Monette Larsen.
Stroud International Textiles is pleased to be working in partnership with the Museum in the Park on this project.
