A 2 Day Master Class With Dail Behennah & Mary Butcher.
Following her recent residency at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Mary Butcher joins forces with Dail Behennah to bring you this opportunity to explore and create using willow and mixed materials.
The triangle is an adaptable form which can be multiplied in many ways to make complex structures in variety.
Taking the triangle and using a range of materials and techniques, Mary and Dail will draw on their diverse skills and experience. to present a fascinating and memorable Master Class.

Make a small brooch inspired by Anglo Saxon jewellery. Using simple embroidery techniques, you will master applying beads and sequins.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced embroiderers.
Louise is an experienced textile artist and a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen.
Please bring needles, beads, threads and scissors. Other materials will be provided.

Following the success of NEW GROUNDS: solo touring exhibition, Dionne shares ideas to initiate stimulating textile surfaces for a plethora of applications.
Experimental mark making provides the energy for this inspirational workshop.  Some textile students shy away from drawing, fear not- it’s made accessible and enjoyable in an encouraging and friendly environment!
Transform your paper work into highly tactile compositions; exploring thread, stitch, cloth, layering etc.. Progress your ideas and techniques simultaneously.  Ideal for those wishing to embark on new areas of development &/or generating sketch book ideas – you’ll have practical exercises to keep you constantly moving forward PLUS the opportunity for individual discussion & tuition. 
Please bring with you inspirational objects to work from [not photographs] and a broad range of mark making tools: pencils, marker pens, felt tips, brushes, foam pads, sponges, sticks: the collecting of these is the beginning of the workshop!  Your choices will all be different – it makes it exciting...
This course is aimed at an intermediate level.
A contribution of £5 per person is requested to cover materials.
Bring a sewing machine, suitable for free embroidery &/or embellisher [in good working order – NB. you must know how to use your machine!!]

Kimono Kimono Exhibition

Venue: Stroud College in Gloucestershire, Stratford Park Road, Stroud GL5 4AH

KIMONO KIMONO is an extensive exhibition that illustrates the development of the kimono over the last one hundred years.
From work wear of cotton and hemp,dyed with indigo,to formal and ceremonial
costume using shibori,weaving and sumptuous embroidery on exquisite silks.It traces the changing fashions and tastes over this period that stretches from the Meiji era to the Showa period and the start of the Heisei era.
It is a rare opportunity to see so many and varied examples of the art of the kimono.This vast array together with selected accessories forms part of an extensive private collection,most of which has never been on public display.It is a collection put together over a number of years by Phil Porter.
 
Phil Porter.
Lecturer,practitioner in the fields of fashion,textiles and theatre design,collector and enthusiast.Phil specialises in the Far East,and holds large collections of Japanese,Chinese and Asian textiles .A lecturer in fashion he devotes his time to the research and collecting of textiles from the Far East.
He has lectured and worked in both Europe and Asia.
 
Lecture : The Kimono a Vanishing Art.
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm
£4.50 and £3.50 concessions
A fascinating insight into the history and traditions of the Kimono.How it was made,it's meaning and it's fast disappearing position in modern society.The talk is sumptuously illustrated with many examples from his extensive private collection,spanning the last one hundred years.Phil Porter gives us a glimpse into the fast vanishing world of the Kimono. A rare opportunity to see and understand this incredible Japanese Artform through this unique personal collection.
