Basic pattern Cutting (Make Do & Mend series)
Tutor: Frances Day
Venue: Red Dog Studio, Five Valley Foyer Gloucester Street Stroud GL5 1QG
Date: Saturday 19 March
Time: 10 am – 4 pm
Workshop fee: £24 plus additional charge for calico (Friends of SIT £20)
One-day workshop introducing the basics of cutting out clothes from commercial patterns. You will start with a simple pattern, and learn how to interpret markings correctly, and how to get the most out of a length of fabric. You can bring along a pattern you have already chosen, and the fabric you want to use, or simply learn from some sample patterns cut from calico. No prior knowledge of dressmaking is necessary. When you have covered the basics, we will then learn how to make simple modifications to commercial patterns to give you the best fit for your body shape, or even to get creative and add your own pizzazz to a design.
Requirements: Students must bring along a good, sharp pair of large scissors. Optionally you can bring a pattern and some fabric that you would like to make up into an item of clothing, but all other materials will be provided.
To book a place on any of the courses please send a cheque made out to 'Stroud International Textiles' to:
